Google Is Activating 1.3 Million Android Devices On A Daily Basis

Google Chairman Eric Schmidt revealed the company is now activating 1.3 million Android devices on a daily basis, up from 900,000 in July.

This is really impressive. For some context, Apple sold ~46.4 million iOS devices last quarter, or 515,500 per day. It’s not a perfect comparison because sales are not the same as activations. People could be activating older Apple devices, but there’s no way Apple is even close to Google on this score.

Where are all these new Android activations coming from? CNBC’s Jon Fortt points out Android has become huge in China as low-cost alternative to the iPhone.
